Balkrishna Vithaldas Doshi

Born in Pune, India in 1927. In 1951-57 senior designer and representative for Le Corbusier in Paris and Ahmedabad for his major buildings in Chandigarh and Ahmedabad. Since completing the Kantilal Banker residence, Ahmedabad as his own project in 1956-57, he has designed and completed many works across a wide range of categories, including housing and townships, office buildings, educational facilities, institutional facilities and auditoriums. Doshi is equally known as educator and institution builder. He was the first founder Director of the School of Architecture, Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT), Ahmedabad (1962-72), and first founder Dean of the Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (1972-81). He was instrumental in establishing the nationally and internationally known research institute Vastu-Shilpa Foundation for Study and Research in Environmental Design. The institute has done pioneering work in low cost housing and city planning.
