Jarmund / Vigsnæs


After years of teaching and independent practice Håkon Vigsnæs and Einar Jarmund founded the firm Jarmund/Vigsnæs A.S. Architects in the fall of 1995. Both graduated from the Oslo School of Architecture in the late eighties. Håkon Vigsnæs spent one year at the AA in London under Peter Salter, while Einar Jarmund spent altogether three years in Seattle, Washington receiving a Masters degree from University of Washington, teaching and working. Both have taught at the Oslo School of Architecture with Professor Sverre Fehn, although not during the same period. Over the last six years the office has gradually increased in size from two persons to today’s staff of nine with eight architects. They have entered a series of competitions, both open and invited, getting some kind of award in many of them. The most important projects as of today are: Office building for the Norwegian Governor at Longyearbyen in Svalbard, a hybrid office/housing/tourist information/jail/etc., at 78 degrees north. Coastal traffic Centre at Kvitsøy, a building on the west coast of Norway dedicated to radar control of all large ships on the coast and distribution of Pilots.
The new Oslo School of Architecture, a result of first prize in an open architectural competition 1998. Completion is scheduled for the summer of 2001. Extension of Regional College in Molde, a result of first prize in an invited competition 1998. Completion is scheduled for the summer of 2002. In addition to these fairly large project they have a series of one family houses or vacation houses both built and waiting to get started on site, including a summer house in Sineu, Mallorca, scheduled for completion summer of 2001.
These project were the subject of an exhibition at The Norwegian Museum of Architecture in September 2000 entitled “14 houses – Jarmund / Vigsnæs”
