Diener & Diener Architekten
Diener & Diener was established in 1976, upon Roger
Diener’s joining his father’s firm. Today, the firm is based in Basel
and Berlin and managed by Roger Diener. Ever since the beginning of his career,
has also taught architecture: 1986–1989 as professor at the Swiss Federal
Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), and as a guest lecturer at many universities
internationally. Since 1999, he has been professor of Architecture and Design
at the Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich and one of the four initiators
and manager of ETH Studio Basel / Contemporary City Institute. Their award-winning
contributions to competitions, including the extensions to the Zollverein Mine
in Essen in 1999, the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna in Rome in 2000
and the development of the Spree Triangle in Berlin in 2004, are almost as well-known
as their buildings. Currently, the projects commissioned for the University of
Malmö and Novartis headquarters in Basel are, among other projects, nearing
completion.
